Finally, this is the end of the Blog..

Honestly, I love blogging so much, it's like we tell the world our own opinion without scared of other people reject, because Blogging is not about RIGHT or WRONG, but mostly about our opinion, with our own knowledge.

But blogging in the formal way, and using a proper languages ? that is an issue for me..

IPD assignment always be the hardest part for me because I can't simply say whatever I want to say. This blog require me to think logically, and apply the theory into a reality. Oh my God.. It's like I need to think properly before I type, I need to arrange, make a skeleton if it's need before I make a post, and It's totally reverse from my habit of blogging!. sometimes to start doing this assignment, I might get a bit headache.

But we all believe that NO pain, NO gain

Throughout this whole semester, This subject is one of the hardest that requires me to learn a lot of stuff that I haven't going through before :

1. I need to read a lot
It's not about reading novel that can drive me into a beautiful story, or reading a diary that makes me understand of other people feeling, but I need to reading the whole thick book with full of theory, that everything inside is "quotable" . this really taught me how to have a passion in reading.

2. connect
basically, I have difficulty to think logically, and this subject require me to connect the theory with reality. and because of this subject I did a lot of research, about the issues that actually happen in the society, and expand my knowledge for be able to relate the reality with the theory. and quote them properly.

3. all In need is here
yeap. all the text-image base that I have learn in my course which is mass comunication is actually taught by a lot of people. So I agree that lecture are not explain base on their own experience, but supported by other people with the theory.

Lastly, I really thanks that this subject are actually expand my ability to handle something. since my major is not far away with image and text, this subject really help me into future plan.

Cartoon of Mohammeds record a history in Denmark

This picture above is shows the article that become an controversial issue and history in Denmark. Four years a go, Danish company had a creative experiment to make a cartoon of Muhammad, as we know as a prophets in Muslim.this is happen to test whether the cartoonist are afraid of the ethnic issue that happen in Denmark. 44 are invited but only 15 of them respond.The result is, 12 caricature of Muhammad that published in the newspaper, and it made a history in Denmark. Denmark's embassy in Damascus had been torched, Danish consulate in Beirut was being set in fire, moreover, Danish Prime Minister were burnt in Turkey. Protest has turn into riots from Middle East to other countries, caused 450 people killed, and 800 people injured. The caricatures believed were against sacred iconography by Muslim

I believe that there is a fear that could be a threat from Muslim that makes Denmark take the experiment. Although they had ppromised to the comicus to publish the caricatures, as a media they should filter information that relevant to the public. According to Bonde (2005) Media Should be responsible for the securing coherence and inclusion of all groups in society and aware of exercise of the freedom does not take place in space without societal context.

the media should understand the background of the audience before they publish something, because the cultural background is a strong factor of the audience to interpret something. According to Kress and Van Leeuwen (2006) visual meaning are too indefinite, people can make radically different meaning from an imagge due to respective cultural background, past experience and level of knowledge. text must come together to arrive definite meaning. If it is not complete, there is always miss interpretation that happen.

For example picture of Mohammad above, with the bomb as a turban. In my interpretation this caricature without a word make me create an negative meaning. It should be something about suicide bomb that actually part of Mohammad followers, my interpretation straight pointing to the one community, which is Muslim. This kind of thought that actually make the riots happen. because different people tend to have different interpretation depends on their cultural background, Schriver (1997, p365)

The important to express your feeling

Everyday we are communicating with other people, most of it in writing. but many people don't know how to write in order to express their feeling. because of that reason Professor Fahlman, who's based at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, suggested to use smiley face at the end of their sentence in order to make a joke. this is happen to make a good impression in the audience. and after that people around the world using it as a habit when writing an email, chatting online or text message (Abc.net.au 2007).

Nowadays, emoticon are everywhere. people create different type of expression in order to make conversation by text more interesting. With using emoticon. we are able to break the awkward feeling and show our feeling to other people. Emoticons can be part of multimodality because multimodal are texts which are made of text with images (Walsh, 2006). With the used of emoticons in emails, the message being convey will be much easier to understand. It is very important to give the sentence alive and full of expession, to prevent miss understanding in text message. If last time we can only make an emoticon with a simple line, nowdays there is alot of website that provide a fancy emoticon to express your self.

According to Schriver (1997, p.403), ‘it is a good idea to pair icons and labels which is to double signal an idea by giving the reader multiple ways to represent the same idea .’ So it is adviceable to use emoticon although we already put the same meaning as the text before. for example " happy :) " . Besides, emoticon can emphisis the meaning of your text and also make other imagine what kind of feeling should they put in the situation. for example: To start day; people usually great somebody. which one is the best option to express your feeling

The text above is perfectly the same sentence, but because of the emoticon the impression towards the greeting is different. people tend to imagine the voice in option A, and they imagine people's face with the smile in the option B. that is why the emoticon is made a lot of difference.

I'm personally, love when people using emoticon to express their feeling.sometimes when their using fancy emoticon that looks cute, make me imagining their expression is similiar with emoticon that they use. when it's really match, sometimes we can laugh because it's directly reflect their real expression. in the chat conversation, word never be enough. especially when it experiment by people that use to communicate face to face. without emoticon it might be a missunderstand between them. Sometime, I just lazt to put emoticon in my converstion, because I need to remember the symbol to make the emoticon appear. however, in using emoticon, I prefer to replace a particular sentence to be an emoticon rather that put additional symbol to make the icon appears.

Cartoon engage the audience, whether the lover or hater.. how is it working?

The article by Mike Rosen-Molina gave more explanation of how the cartoonist engage their audience by getting more responds in lover and haters, most of the letter that come in the newspaper is about articles or comic.it showing how much interest that reader have towards this topic .

One of the cartoonist Francesco Marciuliano said "Once I really start to hate a comic enough, a lot of the time I actually start to love it," about dealing with the public, cartoonist have their own way. They was actually discover that people that have the anger towards cartoons don’t have really something to argue. They are discover many of the medium of Internet that can shows how they real opinion of the audience. They tend to respond positively in twitter than email. Otherwise, cartoonist will go forum by forum and find out. They actually doesn’t really care about what audience say, because as long as their have own idea, reader will like it.

I agree that is not easy to engage audience into other people imagination, sometimes it might cause a controversial comment of different thought. Like what happen with George Joseph Herriman creature, He is a comicus that famous on 1932 because of his comic “Krazy Kat” that publish on New York Evening Journal. He portray a very unusual topic that happen in the American society. It’s about ethnic polarisation that going on in that era, Through the illustration of the cat character with others supporter character, He try to figure the race characteristic that exist in American society. where by He created a dialect of speech based on real such as Latin, American Indian, African-American, Spanish, In this comic, he put another spelling that he created to make the uniqueness.

Krazy Kat, however, was the comics / strips that became Herriman's most popular. It was never goes smoothly, many readers complained because it’s make no sense and touched of some ethnic character. However it had an enthusiastic from other people, such as an artist and intellectuals people of that era. And because of big controversial, the strips become famous until now. The understanding of comics are depends on people knowledge. Means that the cultural background of the audience affects their interpretation of the comics. According to Schriver (1997,pg.374) “document designers must visualize familiar objects and symbols that make direct contact with the specific local culture, requiring detailed study of the culture prior to designing the visuals”. And because Herriman cover up the cultural characteristic on his creation, His creation can be understood and acceptable in American society.

Another example is Garfield. Who don’t know about this character? He is a lazy Cat that has been stolen a lot of people attention through the story. It’s begin in 19 June 1978 from a strip newspaper by Jim Davis. This comic strip currently holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip. In their journey, There is not much controversy, because the story is based on daily activity of the main character and consist of light conversation . now because of a lot of antusiasm fans, Garfield has brought up to the cinema.

The successful of comics strip is not far from the development of the media. The success of Krazy Kat was pure by a newspaper circulation, but it’s different with garfield that famous in the media shift era, where by alot of people know about it as a character in the movie rather then comics strip. According to Kress and van Luween (2006,pg.23) “and we suggest that we are in the middle of the shift in valuation and uses from one mode to the other, from the “old” to “new” visual literacy in many important social context

If you realize how many of your friend or relatives like to update their own status through online media such as facebook, or twitter? I know the answer is ALOT. Nowadays our society is extremely effect by media,everyhting that we thought, every information that we get is from media. If you want to find out about your classmate life, you just go to the facebook and you find anything you need inside. Because everybody now turns to online life, with putting their biodata and information that can seen from all around the world, So what actually happen in the society?

The article by Cecilia Kang is cover about the privacy in the internet ,where by one of the researcher found out People who has put their information online are care about privacy, but most of them don’t do much about it. Danah Byond said “Fundamentally, privacy is about having control over how information flows” when people fell that they have loose control of their privacy that is when the trust will broken. In fact, last December when Facebook announce about the privacy setting, their didn’t lose any users. the current user still exist with broadly their information or make it more private.
Basically, this is the current issue that happen in our society. If you meet new people outside , you may asked their facebook rather that their home address,or phone number. Because you might see it in the their facebook profile.So, with many people it putting their private information online what is the benefit of it?

For example facebook where by alot of people from a huge range of ages become users, They can connect with their old friends from their childhood with provide their personal information which recognize by others. For business, with typed detail of our identity and be honest with our customer, although we never meet each other we can gain other people trust. With having profile in facebook with our detail, people will think that we are person that always upgrade, exist, and aware of technology. With this 3 characteristic, people wouldn’t feel out of the society.

Despite all the advantages, we believe that everything always have a consequences. I have found one case that shows how dangerous putting detail in the Internet. There is One girl that randomly pick by a sales marketer of one glossary product in their roadshow at downtown. The sales marketer asked her opinion about their product and it will publish the other day on their newsletter. The sales marketer didn’t ask any detail of the girl, only the email address. the other day in the newsletter that has been publish have the girl full name and contact, even state there the institution where the girl studying now.

If it is so easy to find our data in the Internet, it is also easy for other people to wrong use our data. So It’s better for us to keep our privacy that post up and circulate in the Internet

Artist as a object of media (bonus post)

Recently, There is one big issue that booming in Indonesia. A video porn with duration of 15 minutes, spread around the Internet. the person inside suspect as Ariel , the leader of phenomenon band in Indonesia, with his girlfriend Luna Maya, a famous model in Indonesia. because of this video, both of them are not be able to perform normally in front of public, even the girl has a very bad pressure and depress.

This is not the first case in the Entertaiment world, previously, If you can recall there is one blue video of Taiwan artist Edison Chen and Gillian Chung that spread in the internet. This case happen because Edison was careless and make a third party having their video and spread in the internet.

The fact, both of the video is a real video.
So, what actually happen in the society? the artis not only become an entertainer but also as an object "entertainment"

there is two issue that can be dicuss; where is the privacy of the artist? and what kind of knowledge that society will get from this issue?

Knowdays, the privacy of the artist become risk. Artist are mean to be public figure that always close with the media, but it doesn't mean everything that related with them can be a public consum. With the development of the media nowdays, we cannot doubt that the issue spread very fast with everybody are ready to receive the information from the new media. for example is the video of luna maya and ariel was spread officially in youtube only 3 hours before You Tube officially delete it, but now it's available can can be downloaded free. the media that we use now is so fast, different with last time. It's because we are in the middle of revolution from an old media to new media ( Kress & van Luween, 2006)

In the other hand, artist is always be be a role model. Role model is someone that help us to become the person we want, to be insipre to make a difference, we need to choose wisely so that will help to be a better person (ben rubenstein, 2010) with their perfect look and talent and skill their deserve to be more than normal people. but, If the role model of the society are bad,what kind of generation that we expect? because everything that they had done will afftect the whole society.

In my opinion, If the issue is true, the artist should be apologize in the public and make an statment to solve this problem, and the media should cooperate with public with didn't exaggerate the issue. Otherwise the information that available it's just a fake to make a public still on demand.
